Dear Ted : I've evolved this different presentation of the vanishing wand. Use your regular assistant or a volunteer. Show a piece of newspaper, tap wand to show solid, and roll it up twisting the ends. Hand to helper. Show a second piece of newspaper, roll it up empty, twist the ends, and also give it to helper, taking back the first package. Tear this into bits and throw aside. Then take the remaining paper roll, tear off an end, and withdraw the wand. ******* It is, of course, that standby, a heavy black paper shell with white wood inserts…
This effect has been worked up from a number of ideas and angles heretofore known by a few people if not by many. Together they make an excellent and tested routine with silks. From a proven (?) empty box of small proportions are produced three silk handkerchiefs of the 18 inch size. One by one these handkerchiefs are disappeared by rolling them into the hands in the approved classical fashion. And then, with something of a flourish, the three silks are reproduced from the hands, knotted together in a string! The string of silks are rolled into a ball and…
This is a conceit which will be a novelty for any performer working in front of any club or group of about 50 to 150 people. The magician borrows a postage stamp from a spectator. It is seldom that from a fairly large group a postage stamp is not available, for many persons carry several in their notebook or pocketbook. If none is on hand the performer may introduce a half sheet of them which he passes to someone. The spectator marks one stamp on the gummed side in any manner identifiable. Spectator N°2 is now asked to assist the…
This may seem like a lot of trouble for the vanish of a half dollar but it is so clean and startling that once you use it you'll not stop doing it at all available times. To a half dollar size coin solder a small wire loop near the edge but not projecting over. Tie one end of an 8 in. piece of catgut to the wire loop, attaching the other end to ordinary black elastic used for pulls. The pull is fastened to the back of the vest and comes around left side of the body through a belt…
In this effect a fountain pen is caused to vanish from a handkerchief or table cloth, and then reappear in a novel fashion. Borrow a fountain pen and clip it to a folded handkerchief as shown in the first drawing. The handkerchief is folded once each way. Grasp each end of the pen and roll it toward you so that the cloth forms a roll about the pen. The left fingers, however, instead of rolling the end they hold, actually grasp it so that as the right hand rolls the pen toward you, the pen itself (held stationary by left…
Effect: A silk is removed from the trousers pocket which is then shown empty. The silk is marked with an initialed label and then is vanished. A spectator produces it from the magician's pocket. The trick is repeated, and the spectator who initialed the label is asked to take the silk from the pocket, and identify it for himself. The equipment needed is two 13-inch red silks, a box of gummed labels (Dennison Index Tabs N°217), and a handkerchief pull. A pencil also is in your pocket. To prepare, write the word "Hank" across the top of one of the…
Quite a few magicians have used this old time effect, but at present it seems to have died out. The usual method has been for a faked plate to be used, but this method is simplicity itself, the plate and newspaper being unprepared. A common soup plate is shown together with a sheet of ordinary newspaper. The paper is put on the table and the plate placed on it with the eating side down. One or two handkerchiefs are now shown and vanished by any favorite means or appliance. Upon the plate being lifted, the handkerchiefs are found underneath. Dependent…
Close up performers will be delighted with this number, and it can be shown before quite a goodly sized audience too. In effect, the performer shows both hands empty and the left formed into a fist. From a bag of popular tobacco a quantity is poured into the fist and when the hand is opened, the tobacco has vanished. Reaching into space with his right hand, the performer makes a catching motion and proceeds to pour tobacco from it into the left hand from where it may be returned to the bag and all examined if thought necessary. This illustrates…
Cigarette tricks are always popular and the following effect on those who know the old cig vanish via the thumb-tip is quite mystifying. It is an excellent close up item and it has everything in magical elements. You will need a thumb-tip, a bag of Bull Durham tobacco, a booklet of cigarette papers and one ordinary cigarette. That's all. The thumb-tip is tucked slightly behind your hanky which is in the same pocket. The regular cigarette is placed into the lower right side vest pocket, protruding a little so that it may be easily secured at the opportune moment by…
Effects which are impromptu are always popular, especially when they are a little out of the ordinary and very clean from the start to the finish. While not startling, this coin routine is simple of execution and appears like real magic. Borrow a quarter but have the spectator note the date before giving it to you. It is openly folded in the cloth of your right trouser leg above the knee, and after the donor has felt it there, the fold is dropped and the coin has vanished whereupon it is produced from the trouser pocket. Once more it is…
